| However,
fascinated by Fulbert, bishop of Chartres in the XIth century
and one the great scholars of the period, he chooses that name
to attach to his; and it is therefore under that double
appellation that are edited books composed by the typographer in
his workshop at Cléry-Saint-André. |

The
Orléans multimedia library has organized a show of his
production, and a quick look at the catalogue makes evident the
fact that everything in Jean-Jacques Sergent's work is based on
selected affinities; those of today and those of yesteryear; one
comes across Apollinaire and Pic de la Mirandolle, François
Rabelais and Jacques Prévert, Henry Michaux, Yves Bonnefoy,
Eugène Guillevic or Eric Satie, and many others; side by side,
one finds the narrative of the Passion of Christ and Taoist
books, the Gospel of Saint John and texts from the early desert
anchorites; leafing through the pages, one meets François
Righi, Marc Pessin, Bambagioni, Eric Lefèvre, his long-time
accomplices.
At the
origin of everything he produces : a "coup-de-cœur"
for a style, a thought, a story; everything that is in fact
Jean-Jacques Sergent. |
